The Girl's 1st Day of School

The girl's first day of school was Jan. 10th and they were so excited! They did so good putting their coats and backpacks away and getting started. They didn't even look back. It helps that they not only had eachother but they had their 3 cousins with them in the same class.

I was quite surprised at how well I did by not crying! I did get a little choked up the rest of the week when we would pick them up. Watching them walk down the ramp anxious to show us what they made in class just made me so proud of what good, smart girls we have.

I hope they continue to be this excited for school and it is my personal goal to make sure it stays that way.

Grace as "Scary Ghost" & Sadie as "She-Ra riding Swiftwind"

It was a nice, quiet Halloween and the girls had fun. It was interesting to hear the comments about Sadie's costume. Some just said, "Look at the pony!" Someone even said, "Look at the pig!" (Not sure how they came up with that one?) Someone did give her 2 pieces of candy for having "The best costume of the night!" The top of her costume (aside from the wig) was all hand made thanks to the help of my mom and Dave. The sword we bought off Ebay but it came in yellow. So I spray painted it silver and added the jewels.

Grace's costume was bought at Walmart. She saw it and fell in love and would not let me try and talk her into anything else.

We also saw "Legends of the Guardians" which was a pretty good movie. And we saw "You Again". That was a cute movie. Grace slept through most of it and Sadie watched the whole thing. We tried to take the girls to a fish hatchery but their website claimed they were open til 4pm but when we got there at 3:20 they were closed. No big deal. Not like we drove 20 miles out of the way to see it.

We had a good time. I miss living in a small town with trees and having to drive 20 minutes to go to the store. The peace and quiet was very relaxing and I hope to be able to go up more often.

4 year check up including 5 immunizations!!

Went to Laser Quest and played a game of Laser Tag and Air Hockey. Grace won 3rd in Laser Tag and Sadie won at Air Hockey!!

A beautiful Blue Jay that hung around outside the cabin.
This ride down the hill ended with me diving with camera in hand to keep Grace from running into a tree. She laughed the whole time and some strange dude commented on the fact that she has no fear. However, this morning I'm in the family room on the couch and Grace comes running in with a look of pure terror screaming for me to come in the other room. So I figure something is seriously wrong with Sadie since she is screaming as well. As I turn around the corner they start screaming about a fly being in their bedroom. I'm furious because they got me all worked up thinking something is seriously wrong. Nope. Just a fly. Grace's weekness.

Sadie does have a smile on her face. Actually, the first time Dave took the girls down Sadie cried and refused to go again. So I convinced her to go with me and for whatever reason that time was better than the first and she loved it then on.

Grace's picture last year was sooo cute! Not that this picture isn't cute cause it is. It took about 30 pictures to get this one. She would not sit still and she kept giving that cheesey "CHEESE" smile (if you know what I mean).

Grace started crying right before I tried to get the two of them together. So Sadie just threw her arms around Grace and started smiling and so Grace did too. But you can tell in the pictures of the two of them that Grace was smiling through tears.

And this was the 3rd picture I took of Sadie. I didn't even bother seeing if I could get a better one. Why put her through more than was necessary. After her refusal to smile last year and even still in recent pictures I was so happy to have this picture. So beautiful.

There are times I don't give Sadie enough credit. I thought for sure she would chicken out when it came time to get on the horse. She was super excited before it was her turn and when the guy came to get her, she willingly went along. She didn't even look back to make sure I was coming too. She sat on that white horse like she'd done it a thousand times before. I was/am so proud of her.
I never worry about Grace being too shy or too scared to do anything. She's always willing to try and do new things. I honestly don't know where she gets her outgoing personality. Must be Dave (even though I think he's a shy guy) cause she sure as heck doesn't get it from me.

This is totally random but I took the girls to Red Robin by myself for the first time and I'm not looking forward to doing it again. They were good but I'm having a hard time lately getting the girls to do what I ask when I ask without any threats. Dave only has to ask once and they listen. Totally not fair.

Ran to the store last night about 8pm to grab a couple things and Grace was nodding of the entire time. It was sooo funny! She even thought it was funny when she would start to fall to the side and catch herself.

Dave won some hill-billy teeth in a claw machine at Red Robin that we found to be quite entertaining.

A couple months ago but this was their 3 year check up.
I think we may have a future architect.

So I think we've settled on Halloween costumes. Grace is going to be Batgirl and as much as I wanted Sadie to be Supergirl, she decided she is going to be Thumbelina. Didn't get a picture of her in her costume because she had just smashed her finger and she was in a mood. She didn't keep her costume on long enough.

But anyway.... Grace was just so darn cute in her costume I had to share.

Grace LOVES to watch people cook. She pulls a chair up to the counter and watches and learns. For example, I was making cole slaw yesterday and she's seen it made so many times that she knows we use our hands to mix and squeeze it up. Anyway... Ron also decided to make homemade soft pretzels later on so of course Grace pulls up a chair. While trying to get down she must have slipped and hit her chin on the counter and now has two holes in her tounge. She would NOT let me look at her mouth when it first happened. It took a good 20 minutes or so before she would open her mouth just enough to let me see. She just kept crying and saying, "it will be fine momma!" She's so brave. Either that or she's so chicken when she's really hurt that she pretends nothing is wrong.

She wanted nothing to do with anything that would even make it feel better. No ice, no popsicle, no medicine (and I never have an issue with medicine), no kisses, no nothing. It was so sad. She eventually cried herself to sleep and woke up every once in a while crying probably because her mouth got dry and it hurt her tounge.
Every time I tell her to show me she smiles and says that it's getting better!

Sadie Gets Her Ears Pierced!

Sadie did MUCH better than anticipated.

There was a split second where I actually thought there was no way we would leave with Sadie's ears pierced. But she sat in the chair without fear and unaware of what Grace went through. (MeeMa took her for a little walk while Grace went first. I knew Grace would get over the pain relatively quick and be happy enough to show Sadie her ears). As soon as the nice lady got close to her she got a little shy and as soon as the piercing was over the screaming began. She took a little longer to calm down but nothing new chapstick wouldn't cure. As soon as we found some that wasn't priced way incredibly high she forgot all about her ears.

It's tough to watch how excited your child is over something they have no clue how much it's going to hurt. It wasn't that long ago I had a second hole put in my ears so I remember how much it actually hurts.

While this is technically their 2nd time on an airplane, the 1st time they were barely 6 weeks old. So this is their 1st time understanding what they are doing. And they had a great time!

The dog and cat show was probably the biggest hit for them. They didn't seem to care for the dolphin show. During Shamu (which wasn't til 9pm) Sadie had to pee but didn't want to say so for fear she might miss something. I finally put her pull up on and told her it was okay to pee in her pull up this one time. She wouldn't do it until she couldn't hold it anymore. I felt bad for her but she didn't want to leave. And then not 5 seconds later she fell asleep and missed half the show.
Grace fell asleep maybe 5 minutes before the end. They had a good time though. We rode rides and Grace jumped on one of those tramplines attatched to bungie cords. We have video of that I'll have to post as soon as I find the video camera.

I feel like we totally slacked on the Sea World pictures :(

They had so much fun. I only wish we had more time to spend at the beach. We spent so much time looking for a stupid place to park and we were at one nasty beach with flies and seaweed EVERYWHERE! We won't be going back there next year.

Our day started with a birthday party for Lily and Brianna. (Sadie and Grace's twin cousins who are 13 days older)

This is before we headed over to Dave's friend Bobby's dad's house. I probably would have gotten some pictures of the fireworks if I didn't have a sleeping child in my arms throughout the whole thing. Sadie will seriously sleep through ANYTHING! And we were pretty darn close to all the action. But in the above picture we were in front of Dave's brother's house doing what fireworks we could considering all the good one's are illegal in AZ. And Grace's hair is getting seriously blonde from being in the sun so much.

Sadie has a completely different approach to swimming. She prefers to keep her head under the water and her arms back. She's afraid to get started but once she does, you can't stop her! She has to do it all herself. Since they can touch the bottom in the shallow end I let them both go on their own and practice. (With my supervision of course)

Sometimes I forget that just because they are walking, talking, feeding themselves going to the bathroom themselves, doesn't mean they are done learning new and exciting things. Everyday I'm amazed at how grown up they are becoming. Today I was completely shocked by Grace asking for something she wanted in a normal (not whinny) tone with a please at the end. She's barely 3! Sadie has a long way to go before she learns that asking nicely for something gets her what she wants a lot quicker.

I wish I could explain how odd it is to have two kids the same age with the same up bringing be so completely different. And they were born the way they are today. Grace being so easy except for sleeping, and Sadie being so hard except for sleeping. They are about to turn 3 and I can't believe how time flies!

I thought it would take a lot longer than a couple of weeks but she's got the idea! She's far from being allowed or able to go off on her own. What she does at this point is keep her head above the water. There's not really any forward motion yet. Still, I'm a proud momma.
I'm working on teaching her to swim to the wall or steps. Just in case she were to fall in without her floaties she knows to swim for the wall.

We really don't spend much time doing anything but swimming lately. We're trying to enjoy it while we can before it gets too hot and we have to wait until 7 pm to go swimming.

The past 2 weekends we've headed to Dave & Buster's as a family to have a good time. Not too long ago the girls discovered what fun it is to eat a cheese stick. So I finally got some what of a picture of it. Tomorrow I'll add pics of what comes of a visit to Dave & Buster's. Besides the girls playing their "coin games" we've won a few prizes as well.

The girls stayed the night at my mom's a couple weeks ago and while they were there my mom painted their toes. They have not stopped talking about how pretty their toes are and that MeeMa did it. Thank you MeeMa. Although being in the pool has caused the paint to come off a couple toes so they are going to need some touch ups next time they see MeeMa.

Pools and Parks

The girls were getting bored yesterday afternoon so I thought why not give the pool a try? Sadie sat on the steps for the most part. It took a little convincing to get Grace off the steps without my being in the pool but once she got off the steps she had a good ole time. The water was definitely still on the cold side so once Grace's lips started to turn purple I decided it was time for a nice warm bath.

This year they can touch the bottom of the pool in the shallow end. We're hoping to have two little swimmers by the end of the summer.

It doesn't matter to Grace how cold the water is.

This is how I found the girls one night when I went in to check on them before I went to bed. It's been a couple of months for them being in a big bed. We debated back and forth about what was best for them post cribs. We didn't want to waste the money on toddler beds and we had an extra queen bed lying around. So instead of trying to get two twin beds and figuring out what to do with the spare queen, we thought we'd see how they'd do in a bed together. Every now and then Grace thinks it's funny to stick her feet on Sadie when she's trying to go to sleep. And every night before I go to bed I go in and have to re-arrange how they are laying but so far so good.

And yes they are wearing boys PJ's. Who do I have to talk to in order to get girl stuff with dinosaurs on it?

My Birthday....

I like it when Dave is off work. Especially on my birthday.

Even though we have kids who go to bed early and wake up early, we still haven't abandoned our night owl tendencies. Hopefully some day soon because I'm tired of being tired all the time.

Anyway, yesterday was his turn to sleep in but because it was my birthday he let me go back to bed after the Easter Bunny madness was over. Which also gave him the opportunity to run out and get my awesome birthday present (a Cybershot T-90). I have been wanting a small camera that doesn't require it's own BAG in order for me to take it with me. It's just to much hassle to keep track of two kids, a purse and a camera bag when we are out and about. So I stopped taking the camera bag hence less posts with pictures because there were no pictures taken. Which is something that actually bothers me.

So I got what I wanted.

What I liked even more was how great Dave was with the girls. He had them sign my birthday cards and help put my Easter/birthday basket together. When Sadie would start to annoy me with her extreme clingingness (word?) he would come and get her distract her with something dinosaur. He taught them to fly kites yesterday (pictures to follow). He tried to teach Grace how to fly a remote control airplane. He gave them a bath and put them to bed with his secret "Ladybug Story". I haven't heard the story but I have heard the laughing.

We then went to the movies and casino for a little Keno.

We didn't get home until after 2 am so once again, I am tired. It was a great day for me thanks to my wonderful husband.

Sadie (just like Grace but in her own time) woke up one morning and decided she was going to pee in the potty. It's been about a week now with only 2 accidents. Not that Grace didn't do a good job but I am quite impressed at how well Sadie is doing. We took a trip to the mall yesterday that lasted a couple hours and twice Sadie told me she had to go pee. (I HATE HATE HATE taking my girls into public bathrooms. They feel the need to touch EVERYTHING!)

I am now a firm believer that waiting until they decide it's time is the best way to potty train. It's much quicker and easier.

On another note:
Is anyone else curious as to why "Yo Gabba Gabba" is on TV? And how in the heck do they get such famous people to make fools of themselves on this show?

My girls love love love dinosaurs. More so Grace than Sadie. They can identify what a T-Rex is, a brontosaurus, a triceratops, pteridactyl, and stegasaurus. (SP?)

An old friend put her kids Valentines on Facebook and I stole her idea and did it with my girls. Grace's turned out better than Sadie's cause Sadie couldn't hold her hand out and smile at the same time.

Grace is probably one of the most loving, affectionate little 2 year olds you will ever find. She is more than happy to give just about any one who crosses her path a big hug and a kiss. She even has quite a squeeze for her age. Anyway, yesterday after waking up from a rare nap, I got one of Grace's infamous hugs and with it she said, "You're da best!" It was a moment where I didn't know if I should laugh or tear up. So I did both. I could go on and on about how affectionate Grace is. It's kind of weird because there's a maturity behind it. It's hard to explain. I guess it's the way she looks at you. Maybe she's trying to make up for how shy Sadie is when it comes to hugs and kisses. Sadie doesn't really hug and she's just starting to come around on the kisses. You have to catch her in the right mood.

We took a few Christmas pictures tonight for Dave's dad. I'm going to try again soon because even though these turned out extremely cute, Grace's dress looks more blue than green. I promise it's green. I guess I need better lighting. Plus the flash was on a little too strong. But I do like these. SUPER cute!

I can't believe how great Gracie is in front of the camera. She had more smiles than the rest of her cousins and sister combined. She's so funny! You could tell when Sadie was on her own that she wanted to smile but being sweet and simple was what she was going for.

I promise to get some pictures on here soon. I have halloween pictures and the night before we went to this place called Schnep Farms where the girls got to pet animals, go on rides, and saw a huge pumpkin patch. The pictures I took came out horrible cause I decided to use my video camera to take the pictures and all that came out was the dust in the air. So I'm waiting to get the pictures my sister in law took. (hint hint Jen)

In a past looking back post I showed you what Dave would do with their pants when he changed their diapers. I said Sadie always cried and I managed one good picture of her smiling. Here's the proof in how she always cried.

Sadie never really enjoyed this thing like Gracie did. Grace loved it and Sadie would sit in there for a couple of minutes and be done.

So my mom and I are going to Real Estate School. My dad has more work than he knows what to do with right now so I figured, why not? The Girls are getting to an age where I feel comfortable taking on another responsibility. It's one that I can work at my own pace and still be there for my family. Plus it feels good to put my mind to use in a ways that will help me grow as a person. We decided to take a 3 week course, 2 classes a day 3 days a week. I wanted to make sure I still got to see the girls while I did this. It's also kind of fun to see how happy they are when I come home. I get lots of hugs and kisses (especially from Grace. She really is the most affectionate 2 year old you will ever meet.)

So wish my mom and I luck!

So I have been slacking BIG TIME on taking pictures. For a while there I was doing really well remembering to take my camera wherever I went. Not anymore. Maybe it's cause it's not small enough to fit in my purse. It has it's own bag and who wants to carry an extra bag with you wherever you go. Not me. But I will try to get more pictures. In the mean time, I'll tell you about a Gracie moment that brought tears to me eyes.
Last night Dave was playing with the girls. He was growling, pretend bitting, tickeling and so on. But after a while, I guess either Grace was tired of playing and trying to get Dave to stop, or she just really wanted to hug him. She reached her arms around his shoulders, laid her head down and started rubbing and patting his back. The first time she did it Dave didn't realize what she was trying to do so he kept trying to play with her. Once Dave realized what she was doing he sat down and held her while she hugged him and pat his back. Grace is the most affectionate 2 year old you will ever meet. She will come up to you out of the blue and give you a hug and/or a kiss. Just because she feels like it. Sadie on the other hand, I can't even get her to hug and kiss ME half the time let alone anyone else. But I think she's getting better.

No it's not Christmas but I found these pictures and thought I'd share.

This was our second year going up to Williams, AZ for the Polar Express. It's a family event including just about everyone from Dave's family. Aunts and cousins even flew in to join the fun.

(Holy crap my hair was long!) Dave and I were late for Family pictures so this is a quick shot before heading to the train.
Dinner. I can't believe how short her hair is in this picture. Her hair is getting so long.

While not a flattering picture of me, Sadie slept the whole train ride and Grace would NOT sit still. She wanted to explore the train and see everything she possibly could. It's so funny how they are born a certain way and stay that way. Grace ALWAYS was the last one to fall asleep. She would just lay there and observe all that she could. Dave's family likes to stay up late. Even Gram. She stays up past midnight. I always thought it was a learned behavior and they could change it if the wanted to. But along came Grace. I started a routine at 8 weeks of age and by 3 months Sadie was asleep by 8:30 every night. Not Grace though. Again, always the last to fall asleep. Her wiring isn't quite right when it comes to sleep. We always joke that she sleeps like a Verrone but eats like a Rucker. It's so true.

The view from our hotel room. We were on the 21st floor. The elevator rides were not fun. Dave got sick from all the stopping and going from picking people up on the way down and dropping people off on the way up.

Okay... to explain why I have these guys on my blog. Dave, Jimmy, Alethea and I all went to San Diego for Comic Con. This is something that Dave has done long since he met me. He even left the day after we got home from the hospital with the girls to go. It's a money making venture for Dave and he loves to do it. I liked hanging out in Hall H where they do these movie panels where the cast of a movie will come out and answer questions. Then they usually show a couple of scenes from the movie that no one has seen before. These guys were here to promote Guy Ritchie's (Madonna's hubby) new move "RocknRolla". Gerard Butler is my favorite down at the bottom. His breakthrough roll was a little movie called "Phantom of the Opera" as the Phantom. He's since been in "300", "P.S. I love you" and "Nim's Island". This movie is an action film and I can't wait for it. Ludacris & Jeremy Piven

If you're wondering about Grace's poor head, the doctor had to use the vacuum to get her out. She was the second one, sunny side up and I was running low on energy and since her heart rate was dropping the doctor didn't want to wait any longer to get her out. It's so funny how you can compare their births to their personalities and they match up. Grace was difficult to get out and didn't cry much and still is that way today. Sadie on the other hand cried and cried. She still cries too much if you ask me. I was told that in the nursery, when they were doing the shots and pokes and inserting the IV, Sadie cried and Grace just looked over at her and watched her. Grace will now come over and try to comfort Sadie when she cries by rubbing her back and saying, "it's OK." It takes a lot to get Grace to cry now a days. When I watch the video of their birth, the doctors had to rub Grace's back and force her to cry. Goodness. I seriously can't believe they're 2.
